Context
Welthungerhilfe (WHH) is one of Germany’s largest private aid organizations. It focuses on combating global hunger and poverty by supporting long-term development projects and humanitarian aid in over 35 countries. The organization is funded through donations and relies heavily on sustainable, recurring contributions to maintain its impact over time.
In the original version of the donation form, users selected between one-time and monthly donations via standard radio buttons. However, the design lacked visual clarity and emotional cues, especially in encouraging ongoing support.

Design Approach
I replaced the traditional radio buttons with a more engaging toggle element that clearly separates the two options. The toggle now uses a dynamic layout where the currently selected option is visually emphasized through a red background. In the case of monthly donations, this active state is additionally supported by a short label (“Schafft nachhaltige Veränderung durch regelmäßige Hilfe”) and an animated icon that becomes visible upon selection.
This subtle motion draws attention without overriding the user’s freedom of choice. The combination of interaction, color and messaging gently encourages users to consider the monthly option as the more impactful alternative.
To ensure the new toggle felt like a natural part of the page, I also updated surrounding interface elements such as the donation amount buttons and the dropdown for donation purpose. This helped create a more unified and contemporary visual experience.

Ethical Consideration
Although the design clearly favors one option, I consciously avoided deceptive design patterns. Given the positive mission of WHH, I see this as a case where thoughtful nudging is ethically justifiable, the interface remains transparent, and the user is always in control.

Conclusion
This project shows how interaction design and visual emphasis can support donation goals without compromising user trust. Small changes in structure, copy, and animation helped create a more modern, emotionally resonant, and effective donation experience.
